the art of camouflage
The mandalas in this book are based on ornamental patterns created in India. Traditionally made of colored rice powder, flower petals, leaves or colored sand, mandalas such as the ones in this book have been used to decorate homes, temples and meeting places. They may be used daily as well as on special occasions, such as wedding days, babies’ name days and religious holidays and can be found in the homes of people of all faiths. On special days, they may be made of thousands of layered flower petals, creating a brightly fragrant design. The artists make each pattern different and special, using all their ingenuity and skill to increase the delight of all who see them.
