Artist Trading Cards with Alana and Jenna

Hi there -

A reminder that Jenna Freck  and I will be leading a workshop on ARTIST TRADING CARDS!
Monday night, 2/22, 7 pm.

If you are an art docent, or if you’re
considering being an art docent, or if you’re terrified of being an
art docent because you think you’re bad at art, please do come because
this is such a fun approach - POCKET ART!

We tried a few today; we had 2 kids age 5 and 11, plus two adults, and
we didn’t want to stop once we got started.  ATC’s satisfy any age or
ability level because they’re small, portable, low-investment, and
incredibly versatile… and you don’t have to gather them all into an
orderly, date-sorted scrapbook. Throw them into a little box or slip
them into an envelope, swap with friends, send as gifts, leave as
artistic surprises for unsuspecting people in unexpected places…
hmmm…. sooner or later I’ll leave one in my laundry pile and it will
go through some serious changes… becoming one with my dryer lint.

ATC’s are cool because they are so open-ended and low-pressure.
There are several ways to integrate ATC’s into:
• art docent curriculum -
because they can be used to reinforce techniques learned in previous lessons
• classroom curriculum -
use a  theme - history, science,  literature, holidays, geography,
social science, sports and PE…
• social skills -
ATCs are made to be traded, and it’s also really fun to do them
collaboratively. You can even do them on life skills concepts:
kindness, integrity, etc.

I hope you’ll join us.  You just might go home with some art in your pocket!
